We'll be posting a better explanation on how to get points soon, but alexds1 is right, getting friends to join the site by inviting them from the "People" menu gives big points. You also can get points when people collect your Flips and by completing your whole profile. More details to come :)
I basically bothered everyone I knew to join XB You can get points if you refer someone to the site through their email refer-er
